Custodial Manager


Position Structure and Details

Reports to: Director of  Facilities
Hours/week: 40 hours, 1:30pm-10:00pm
Location: Eden Prairie Campus
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Key Duties and responsibilities

  • Oversees the activities of entire custodial staff by using both verbal and written instructions in compliance with the guidelines provided within the Custodial Handbook, and, the ability to use independent judgment in instances not covered by the guidelines
  • Assists with ensuring that specified custodial contract services are provided by the contractor by inspecting the work performed and advising the Director of Facilities when shortcomings or other deficiencies are noted
  • Ensures that contract custodial services meet the needs of the various church ministries, hospitality services and established custodial guidelines, by scheduling work activities that ensure minimum disruption of scheduled programs and events
  • Assists Facilities Specialist by adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special custodial projects
  • Investigates complaints regarding custodial staff, supplies and equipment and directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary to meet those guidelines
  • Develops an efficient team of custodial personnel by training and instructing all custodial employees in the proper methods and use of chemicals, materials and equipment, and building opening and closing schedules
  • Evaluates individual performance of custodial team members to meet established standards and conducts required performance evaluations on custodial personnel
  • Supports the interviewing and hiring process for custodial staff and makes recommendations regarding the retention of new and existing employees
  • Verifies and tests the equipment and supplies necessary to perform custodial services by requesting supplies as needed, completing request form(s) for replacement items
  • Ensures building is secure during assigned shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to Facilities Director in a timely manner
  • Tags all malfunctioning or broken equipment, documents repairs required on the Equipment Repair Tag, and places the equipment in the designated repair section
  • Oversees all room setups are arranged and in compliance with the assigned activity or event
  • Passes on essential duties and information to the oncoming Custodial Manager who is responsible for the next shift
  • Attends training and/or courses required by the Director of Facilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Professional and Spiritual Expectations

  • High school diploma or equivalent technical training and coursework 
  • 3-5 year’s relevant custodial and/or supervisory experience
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills
  • Current on MSDS (Material Data Safety Sheet) requirements and the use of storage of chemicals used in custodial work
  • Proven background of exceptional customer service; is able to serve the staff and congregation with respect
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds
  • Working knowledge of security systems preferred
  • Demonstrates a willingness and capability to learn the intricacies of maintaining a large facility
  • Mechanical aptitude for routine equipment maintenance
  • Ability to be flexible for night and weekend assistance, on occasion
  • Exhibits a meaningful and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior as evidenced by the manifestation of the fruit of the Holy Spirit
  • Exhibits a lifestyle appropriate to a person in public Christian ministry by conducting life with the utmost integrity in all situations
